About Mary Anne
Mary Anne has over 25 years of experience helping clients develop, as well as execute, on comprehensive data strategy including usage, management, and governance. Her global experience has spanned more than 100 clients representing numerous industries and data subject areas including financial services, education, government, health and life sciences, energy, telecommunications, retail, and manufacturing.
Mary Anne most recently spent 16 years leading a Management and Advisory Consulting team at SAS that focused on helping clients achieve business objectives in the areas of data management, data governance, and reporting and analytics. In 2024, she was nominated by her peers and awarded the SAS CEO Award of Excellence for her “dedication to [SAS’] values and passion for excellence.”
Prior to SAS, Mary Anne held roles in database development, data warehouse development, data warehouse platform management, business system analysis, and project/program management. Each of these experiences contributed to her passion for the usage of trusted data to solve business problems.
In addition to client delivery, Mary Anne is also a presenter at industry events and an author. Her first book, Practitioner’s Guide to Operationalizing Data Governance, was published in May 2023.
Here is Mary Anne’s favorite book review:
-
“My favorite thing about this book is that it highlights the most common pitfalls to avoid when trying to "do" data governance. So often with different frameworks or approaches, proponents offer their way as the best/only way to have data gov "stick". We know that's not true because it continues to be enormously difficult to pull off in most industries. But if you follow the key do's and don'ts as explained here (with helpful examples!), it's apparent that the probability of success will be high.”

Here are some presentation survey comments:
-
“I liked how Mary Anne brought a full toolbox of knowledge to the subject. It was very thought provoking from start to finish.”
-
“Laser-focused presentation with keen insight: emphasizing relationship between data quality, data stewardship, and data governance and their integration in the business. Micro and macro.”
-
“SUPER presentation: thought provoking and insightful; clearly thoughtfully prepared — supported by experience and expertise. Really appreciate guidance-approach, using cause and effect visuals, really good cadence, and like the somewhat business casual delivery.”

In her spare time, Mary Anne enjoys keeping up with her hometown favorite San Diego Padres, playing with her sometimes-crazy dog Bunny, signing books, catching up with her daughters, and sailing one of the boats in her small armada. She particularly loves racing sailboats in local, regional, and national events.
